I did the makeup above at home on one of my days off. I was looking at different final design options and I felt that this was quite a passionate design. I love how the colour moves around and how the colour intensity grows as it curves into the hollows of the face. I love how I have created the depth of colour and how this deepened further by the added dots. It's quite dark but I love the edginess of it so I wanted to see how this worked for my final design and how this fit with my lady in waiting. I drew up the face chart and wrote the notes out on paper for my partner to take home with her and look through.
A few days later I got to sit with my partner to talk through my final design and so Erin could have a go at recreating it. I prepared all of the makeup she needed and the notes, photo's and face chart. We then prepared the work area and I began talking through the design as Erin started the application. I felt that Erin took direction really well but I felt she struggled with the blending and the dot application. I tried to explain that When applying the dots with the liner, to apply little pressure to the nib and only use the vary end instead of the side of the nib. This will create a perfect round shape and size with each dot. I could feel that she was worried about getting the technique down in time for the timed assessment.
I also found it difficult explaining where I wanted the colour around the eye to end and how strong I wanted the contour as I felt Erin was worried about misinterpreting this. I understand how daunting this can be as I was in the same position as her a week ago and you don't want to get it wrong just incase you disappoint your partner. I was worried that my design was too complicated to achieve in this amount of time and that the dots would be too time consuming. We didn't get to finish the full design in this practise but what we did achieve gave me a lot to think about.
Its important that you take your partner into account when thinking about your design. I had to ask myself did we have enough time for Erin to get the technique down? was the design to time consuming and complicated? I also didn't really like the outcome as It felt it looked too bruised to work. It had lost its colour intensity and I was worried that the outcome wouldn't meet my desired expectations for this assignment as it was my first display of my creative abilities.
I went home that night and brainstormed. I decided that I would simplify my design by losing the dots as I can use these for other designs in the future. This was important as this would give Erin more time. I decided that if I made the colour strong and intense this would be enough to create the emotion I wanted for my final look. I had a look at what inspired me again and decided that I would layer the colour and change the placement to give the look more balance. Below is my final design.
I'm really happy with my final design I think it works with what I wanted to show with my Lady In waiting. I think the colour, shading and blending work really well together and I also think that Erin will not only find this achievable but will enjoy the application process as much as I did.
