In today's lesson we learnt how to cleanse, tone and moisterise the skin. This is called prepping the skin and this is important when applying makeup because the skin needs to be clean and prepped so that the makeup applys easily

Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising Technique: We have to make sure there is no makeup
left on the face because this will make it harder when applying new
makeup. If we apply new makeup and there is still makeup around the eyes
(for example) It can make the fresh application look dirty.
When you
start to cleanse your clients face you begin by positioning yourself behind your client. Then, applying Cleansing
lotion to some cotton pads, beginning at the neck with upward sweeping motions you gently move the pads around the face. Removing all old makeup and working your way up the face but avoiding the eyes.
Using circular motions.
Once you have cleansed the face you can begin removing makeup from the eyes. You begin by applying a small amount of cleanser on a cotton bud. Once we feel we have done enough ourselves if there is still some left we let our client remove the rest as they will be able to be get closer to the lash line. Then remove the cleanser with wet pads.
Then
you apply some toner to a cotton pad and move it around the face using
the same technique you used for the cleanser. This will remove any
excess makeup and cleanser and hydrate the skin.
You then apply the appropriate moisturiser in the same way. This will add any needed moisture to the
face and create a plump, hydrated canvas. Check first your clients skin type as this will determine what moisturiser you use.
Complaints and sensitivity:
When I had completed the cleansing, toning and moisturising Tara's eyes began to water and go red. I think the harsh ingredients in the University cleanser, toner and moisturiser aren't great if you have sensitive skin around the eyes and this can prevent the makeup application from taking place. I had to get some cotton pads with warm water so that Tara could sooth her eyes. Next time I will buy Hypoallergenic products to prevent reactions. Hypoallergenic products are essential in any makeup artist's kit. They are good for all skin types and you are less likely to get a reaction.
