Modelling for my friend liberty's shoot: The importance of photographic makeup

Health and Safety check:

  1. Check that all bags and belongings have been stored away properly.
  2. Make sure my client is sat comfortably and caped.
  3. Cover my work station with couch roll.
  4. Make sure all of my brushes have been washed and sterilised with Isopropyl ready for application.
  5. Complete a consultation form with my client and check for any Contra-indications.
  6. Wash hands with soap and water to prevent bacteria from being transferred to my clients face.
  7.  Decant products onto my Palette to prevent cross contamination.

Today I  modelled for my friend Liberty's Digital Image production colour shoot. I found this really interesting. When applying makeup for a shoot you have to really layer it. You have to apply so much to create even a 'natural look'. Every base product I used had to be full coverage and almost opaque. When we took photo's with out makeup on you can literally see every dark circle, spot, blemish, pore, and scar. It was a great learning experience for me as I feel that it can be daunting, applying that much makeup but once you see the finished result you can understand why.

I applied my own makeup as Liberty had a short amount of time in the studio so we thought it might save time if I just apply it before hand. She explained what look she was going for so that I could apply my makeup accordingly. Liberty wanted a warm highlighted look so I applied my makeup, creating a kind of bronzed look and Liberty went over with the highlighter.
I began by applying my Bobbi Brown matte primer. I then covered my face and neck with Mac studio fix foundation in NC20 using my foundation brush. I then blended this with my beauty blender. I then applied Nars brightening concealer to the top of my nose, the middle of my forehead, and under my eyes and blended this out using my beauty blender. I then set this with Mac translucent powder.
I then contoured using Benefit Hoola matte bronzer and my Mac Contour brush under the cheek bones, along each side of the nose, around the forehead, and under the jawline. I then began to highlight the top of the cheek bones using The Balm Mary-Lou-manizer highlighter and my Zoeva highlighting brush. Liberty then went over this with her Illamasqua Radiance veil to highlight. She used this on my brow bone, on my cheek bones, on my collar bones, my shoulders, and on the bridge of my nose. I love this product as it totally gave me that glow! I definitely want to add this to my kit.
I then applied mascara and applied my fake lashes, whispies from Sally's. I then applied Mac white eye liner to my lower water line to make my eyes look fresher.
I then began to shape and fill my eyebrows using my Zoeva brow brush and my Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Pomade in Soft brown. I then Highlighted under the brow with my concealer using my Zoeva Mini Concealer brush. Lastly I lined my lips with Rimmel Spice lipliner and filled this in with Mac lipstick in Midi-mauve.

This came out really great on camera and I definitely learned the difference between everyday or occasion makeup to photographic makeup. The camera picks up everything so you need to make up for this with your makeup application. I really enjoyed being a model for liberty and felt she did a really great job with the images!
